ALI ONER GUNOVEN

Turkey

Ali Oner Gunoven graduated from the University of Windsor's Odette School of Business in May, 2005, with an honours B.Comm degree. He has been working in Turkey since he graduated, and is now an account executive for Manajans JWT, an advertising firm. He is responsible for the daily advertisements of some of the world's largest companies, including HSBC, Unilever, Cadbury Schweppes and Bayer.

"I think it was the greatest experience of all to go to Windsor as an undergrad student," Mr. Gunoven says. "The school life and the education I got there helped me greatly to improve my career and my starting point as well. I started a step ahead of the rest. My education and involvement with the school helped me get acquainted with the work environment today.

"My education in Windsor was so up-to-date and relevant with today's environment," he adds. "I had hardly any difficulties in adopting to any company. All the courses, especially the marketing ones (since that's the area where I work now) prepared me for real life like nothing else. The group work and the relevant cases that we discussed were so close to real life companies. So we did not just learn theory but also the application of theory to real-life situations as well.

"Other than that my involvement on the school committees and societies helped me to learn how to get acquainted with business people as well. From the 'meet-and-greets' to various events and guest speaker to 'stressball', all these events taught me 'how-to's' for the business world—how to address people at different occasions, how to dress for the occasion, and so on.

"I honestly do not believe that one can get this kind of real-life experience at any other school. You have to teach people all aspects of business. That's why and how the University of Windsor prepared me for today's world," he says.
